MTV Europe Goes Bananas for Britney, Beyoncé
So Britney Spears couldn't make it to the MTV Europe Music Awards to pick up her two awards—she had a gig with Madonna and Justin Timberlake in L.A.—but the show went on anyway at Liverpool's Echo Arena.
Katy Perry hosted the event, and rode a giant banana as well. Why? Because she can, people.
Other oddities included pointy dresses, an onstage pillow fight and several trophies going to Jared Leto's band, 30 Seconds to Mars.
Check out some of the highlights in our gallery.
Beyoncé Doubles Up With Fierce New Album
Well, this explains last week's double-barreled video release.
As is only fit for an artiste who's banked more than 70 new songs—and isn't afraid to crow about it—in recent months, Beyoncé has revealed her much-hyped new record will in fact be a double album named in part after her infamous stage persona alter ego.
I Am...Sasha Fierce is due out Nov. 18, and Beyoncé is already doing her best to provide enough recycled backstory for the album's title to satiate even the most detail-hungry fan.
"The new record is a double album and has two covers, like a magazine would have two covers," her Fierceness explained. "One of the covers is named I Am… and then the second cover is named Sasha Fierce. That is my alter ego and now she has a last name."
Beyoncé Debuts Two New Music Videos
Last week, Beyoncé gifted us with his-and-her singles—"Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" and "If I Were a Boy." And now we have the matching music videos.
Just as we had predicted, "Single Ladies" is all about some crazy fierce dancing that really puts Britney's stiff "Womanizer" moves to shame. (Sorry, had to be said—at least she looks great naked, though, right?) If you stick around until the end, B will even show you her awesome robot hand.
Now about that "Boy" music video...
Choose Your Favorite Beyoncé Single
Happy B'day everyone. You know how much Beyoncé loves us all? Enough to gift us with not one but two new singles on the same day.
(Considering she recorded 70 songs for her self-titled album, due out Nov. 18, she could release a single a day over the next month and still have plenty left over.)
First up is "If I Were a Boy"—a ballad in which B. ponders what it would be like drinking beer with the boys, chasing after girls, putting her(him?)self first and treating girlfriends like crap. Although if she were a boy, she would treat her girlfriend better than all that, natch.
If gender-bending ballads aren't your thing, you have the option of listening to "Single Ladies (Put a Ring On It)."
Beyoncé Hypes Her Musical Baby
There's prolific, and then there's Beyoncé.
The Grammy-winning icon-in-waiting has spoken out about her upcoming album, a labor of love she's spent the past 12 months working on and claims to have "poured [her] heart and soul into."
Make that heart and soul and songwriting skills.
Knowles tells fans in a statement on her website that she recorded a grand total of 70 songs—that's seven-zero—for her new album.
"I have taken the time so I can create my sound, something that says who I am at this stage in my life," the 26-year-old says. "It is my baby."

B'Day Set for New Beyoncé
Mark your calendars.
Beyoncé has finally set a release date for her as-yet-untitled third studio album: The wannabe icon will unleash her new tunes on Nov. 18.
While she probably doesn't need to worry too much about hyping the hotly anticipated release, she'll still be amping things up on Oct. 7, when she simultaneously releases the first two singles from the album, "If I Were A Boy" and "Single Ladies."
The new album—her first as a (quietly) married woman—follows up 2006's B'Day and, according to her Columbia record label is the Grammy winner's "most personal, reflective and revelatory collection to date."
The 27-year-old cowrote and coproduced every track on the album.
Jay-Z to Female Fans: Keep Your Shirts On
Kanye West updated his blog last night with a video from a tour stop at Madison Square Garden that features a surprise performance by Jay-Z.
The two impresarios debut a never-before-heard track from Jay-Z’s anticipated forthcoming album, Blueprint 3, in which he implores the ladies out there: Keep your tops on, Beyoncé is in the house.
“Ask Yeezy / I got girls on shoulders showing me their chi-chis,” Jay raps to the NYC audience. “I’m like life ain’t fair / Chill baby girl, my girl is here.”
Who else gets the cold shoulder from Jigga during the show?
L'Oréal: We Didn't Lighten Beyoncé. Honest.
Looks can be deceiving. Apparently.
Yesterday, a new print ad for L'Oréal Paris' Feria hair color surfaced, featuring a seemingly paler than usual Beyoncé Knowles. Today, the French cosmetics giant is adamantly denying that it gave its longtime spokeswoman a case of the Michael Jacksons.
"Beyoncé Knowles has been a spokesperson for the L'Oréal Paris brand since 2001," the company said in a statement to E! News, after coming under withering online attacks suggesting the ad (on right, above) lightened more than just the hair color of the brand's famous face.
"We highly value our relationship with Ms. Knowles. It is categorically untrue that L'Oréal Paris altered Ms. Knowles' features or skin-tone in the campaign for Feria's hair color."
A rep for the 27-year-old Knowles declined to comment beyond the L'Oréal statement.
The ad is appearing in this month's Elle, Allure and Essence. So far the magazines have not said anything about possible Pantone issues.
In any case, color us embarrassed.

Solange Knowles: "I Don't Have a Life in Hollywood"
Solange Knowles doesn't want her three-year-old son, Daniel, to go into the family business.
"I'd love for him to be talented in other things," Beyoncé's 22-year-old little sister says. "I hope that he wants to be a...computer engineer."
Since giving birth to Daniel—when she was just 18—we haven't seen or heard much from Solange...
Is Beyoncé Pregnant? Wait for the Ultrasound
Typically, getting personal details out of a celebrity's publicist is like pulling teeth. Apparently, that's not so with Beyoncé's rep, who's even offered to act as the media's own ob-gyn.
As sources have been saying Jay-Z's wifey has "gained a lot of pregnancy weight," a rep for the singer tells the New York Post, "I don't know if she's pregnant. Let me perform an ultrasound and get back to you."
Now, that's the kind of cooperative spirit we appreciate around here.
