Charlize's Watch Suit Double-Times It to Trial

Apparently getting paid hefty sums of money to wear beautiful pieces of jewelry isn't as easy as it sounds.

Charlize Theron has been ordered to court in a long-pending breach-of-contract suit filed against her by Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil, which is seeking $20 million in retribution from the actress for reneging on an exclusive contract to make her wrist the sole provenance of the luxury company.

A judge in the U.S. District Court of New York already granted a summary judgment in favor of Raymond Weil; a separate trial to settle the issue of damages will likely be held early next year, the company said.

When Stars Wear the Same Dress: Charlize Theron vs. Britney Spears

This is probably the craziest "OMG, Who Wore It Better?!” you will ever come across. Britney Spears and Charlize Theron wore virtually identical metallic Versace gowns within a month of each other—total insanity, right?

Charlize rocked the full-length version at the Venice Film Festival premiere of The Burning Plain. Of course, Brit isn’t about to wear a floor-length dress anywhere, so they whipped out a pair of crazy scissors so she could display some leg while picking up her Moonmen.

Now, this would normally be the point where we'd ask you to decide which sparkly lady owned the dress, but is it fair to pit anyone, especially a fallen pop star on the verge of her big comeback, against the red carpet goddess that is Charlize? Well, that’s just one more question for you to decide.

Where in the World Is Charlize Theron?

We've always said we'd follow Charlize Theron to the ends of the earth, but she seems to have taken us up on the offer.

Just days ago, she was adding some oomph to the stump speeches at the Democratic National Convention by talking up her beau Stuart Townsend's new film, Battle in Seattle, about the World Trade Organization riots in 1999.

But today, she turned up for a screening at the Venice Film Festival. Which, when you think about it, does makes sense for an actress. Here she is at the Guggenheim Museum for a documentary about the legendary designer Valentino. Want more? Check out our gallery below.

Politics, fashion, riots. She does it all. But where will she be next?

Charlize: Yes to Politics, No to Marriage

Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend INFdaily.com

Charlize Theron and her boyfriend, Stuart Townsend, have no problem walking the red carpet at the DNC in Denver to promote his movie, Battle in Seattle—but walking down the aisle is a whole other story.

E! News caught up with Townsend Tuesday at a screening of the political film he directed and quizzed him on whether he and Theron, both Obama supporters, would now marry, given that Theron once said that she wouldn't wed until gay marriage was legalized. (California has legalized same-sex unions.)

"I think she said 'nationwide,' " Townsend joked. "I don’t think she mentioned 'state.' I want everyone to know that was her thing. I do believe that if you love someone you should be able to get married, but it's got nothing to do with my life or her life."

Laughing, he added, "I love her. What more do you want? We are happy. Leave us alone!"

Could Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend be any more sickeningly in love?

The blond beauty says the ring he gave her isn't an engagement number, but more of an ongoing love note.

"It was a Victorian thing," Theron says in the new issue of Elle UK. "You put in a lock of hair or a little note to remind you of your loved one...Every time I go away he puts in a little love note."

What else has Townsend given the Oscar winner?

Fear not for Will Smith. He stands little chance of losing his Big Willie lifestyle. The giant undulating superpool, nestled deep inside his sprawling megacompound off the Mulholland Raceway, will still sparkle. But the Industry is also getting mighty sick of $20 million salaries for stars who, in the end, may not attract the crowds. Here's how they're trimming fat...

No need trying to figure out when Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend will tie the knot.

“I always knew that I didn’t want to get married,” Theron, 32, says in the new issue of W magazine. But she adds, “I’ve always known that I’d be a mom from the time I was a little girl.”

As for their seven-year-romance, Theron, no surprise, won’t reveal too much. When asked to describe the relationship, the Oscar winner adopts a “cavewoman grunt,” according to writer Gabriel Snyder, and says:

Charlize Theron's Space Invaded

Charlize Theron has been the victim of a Hollywood job.

Los Angeles police are investigating a break-in that took place Saturday at the actress' Hollywood Hills home, E! News has confirmed.

The residence had been secured Thursday, according to an LAPD spokesperson, but an unknown number of suspects took the liberty of reopening it over the weekend.

It's unknown at this time what, if anything, was taken from the house or if anyone who was supposed to be there was on the premises at the time.

Theron's neighbors did not report seeing any suspicious characters, police said.

There was no immediate comment from the Oscar winner's publicist.

The 32-year-old Monster star was most recently on the big screen in Paul Haggis' Iraq war-aftermath drama In the Valley of Elah.

Fellow A-listers Faith Hill and Tim McGraw also fell prey to a home invasion back in February. The nearly fulltime Nashville residents were luckily not home when a burglar broke into their Hollywood Hills manse, which sits in a gated community, and stole an unknown amount of cash.

Charlize Double-Times Watchmaker?

Time may be on Charlize Theron's side. Timepieces, not so much.

The Swiss watchmaker Raymond Weil filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against the Oscar-winning actor in New York State Supreme Court Monday, alleging she violated terms of her spokesperson deal by wearing rival jewelers' wares to public events.

In May 2005, Theron signed a 14-month deal with the company, promising that, between October 2005 and December 2006, her wrist would be the sole provenance of Raymond Weil, according to court papers obtained by E! News.

There was no immediate comment from Theron's camp.

Per the suit, the contract made clear that the 31-year-old Monster star could choose her own earrings, necklaces and other jewelry for public events, but Theron agreed to only wear watches made by Weil. She would allow photographs taken of her donning the luxury timepieces to appear in the company's advertising campaign in exchange for what court documents deemed "very substantial sums," the suit states.

"Additionally, artist hereby agrees that during the term she shall not endorse or advertise watches or other jewelry for any other person, entity or company," the lawsuit quotes the contract. "Furthermore, artist agrees that she will not endorse or advertise watches or jewelry for any other person, entity or company, including for charity."

The rub, according Weil, is that about the same she inked her watch deal, Theron began shilling for Christian Dior, serving as the spokesmodel for the designer's J'Adore perfume—and wearing several of the French fashion house's baubles, including timepieces, in the process.

While attending a press conference at an Austin film festival in March, Theron was photographed wearing a timepiece from the Dior line, a picture that subsequently appeared in the watch trade publication Tourneau Times under the headline "The Watches Your Favorite Celebs Are Wearing," with the caption "Charlize Theron wears Dior."

Oops.

In another instance of what Raymond Weil calls "total disregard" by Theron to abide by the terms of her contract, the South African native appeared in an advertisement benefiting an AIDS charity while donning a necklace made by, well, not Raymond Weil.

In early April, Theron lent her name and image to Montblanc, appearing draped in the venerable designer's jewelry on a large Geneva billboard stationed outside the company headquarters, the suit states.

While Raymond Weil has not specified how much financial compensation they're seeking from Theron, they have asked for damages, repayment of salary for her ad campaign and the fees she pocketed for wearing their competitors' charms.

Charlize Theron Gets "Arrested"

Charlize Theron is putting her small-screen skills into Development.

The Oscar-winning actress is slated to guest-star in five episodes of Arrested Development as a British woman who becomes the love interest of Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman).

Theron will make her debut in the second episode of the Emmy-winning series' third season, which kicks off Sept. 19.

The Monster star's guest turn may give a much-needed boost to the oft-threatened series' ratings.

This season, the Fox comedy is slated for a new time slot, airing at 8 p.m. on Mondays.

Apart from getting Arrested, Theron recently wrapped production on Aeon Flux, a live-action adaptation of the MTV series.

Production on the film was shut down for several weeks last summer and fall, after the actress was injured on the set while attempting a stunt on a trampoline.

However, Theron eventually bounced back to complete shooting and the film is now slated for a Dec. 2 release.

Theron will also be seen this fall in North Country, a drama involving a single mother who looks for work in the iron mines of Minnesota, much to the discontent of the male miners. Frances McDormand and Sissy Spacek also star in the film, which is scheduled for an Oct. 14 release.

On Sept. 18, Theron is in the running for an Emmy in the Best Supporting Actress, Miniseries or Movie category for her work in the HBO biopic The Life and Death of Peter Sellers, which leads the field of Emmy contenders with 16 nominations in all.
